Resurrection
In honor of the struggling People of Ukraine, a poem I wrote while sailing up the Dnipro River there in 2006:

Resurrection
Below the river now they sleep,
men and women who never thought
to find the deep waves
above their heads,
or the slow creep of the Dnipro
to the sea.
For generations they lived and died
and made their graves
on this broad plain to be
their hallowed place of rest.
Unless it be that resurrection
takes place upon some other plane
unseen to earthly eyes,
imagine the surprise of those who
on the last day rise
to such a jest.
