God’s Son Could Not Be Separated from Adam

Mother Julian
When Adam fell, God’s Son fell –
because of the true union
which was made in heaven,
God’s Son could not be separated from Adam
(for by ‘Adam’ I understand all men.)
Adam fell from life into the pit of this miserable world,
and after that into hell.
God’s Son fell with Adam into the pit of the womb
of the Maiden (who was the fairest daughter of Adam,)
and that in order to obtain for Adam exemption from guilt
in heaven and on earth.
And He mightily fetched Adam out of hell.
(Julian, Chapter 51)
Before the world were created, God had already united humankind to Himself in Christ. The Incarnation is not a response to the Fall, they are one in the same event. Christ descends into the world as Adam is descending into death, because Christ and Adam are united from before the beginning of things. If one moves, the other also moves. (Thus, at the other end of the story, Christ’s Ascension is our Ascension as well.)
This is why it is called “Good News.”
